The Problem

Money can build a business. It doesn't build a life.

01

Formation

Who am I becoming?

Your character, identity, habits, values, and inner life form everything else.

02

Relational

Who am I becoming with?

Your marriage, family, friends, community, and the quality of your relationships.

03

Physical

Do I have the capacity for the life I'm building?

Your body, energy, sleep, strength, nutrition, and overall health.

04

Intellectual

Am I continuing to learn and grow?

Your mind, knowledge, curiosity, wisdom, and mental models.

05

Financial

What am I building, stewarding, and deploying?

Your money, business, assets, generosity, freedom, and legacy.

Most leaders spend their lives increasing Financial Capital. The wisest leaders begin somewhere else: Formation Capital comes first.

The Capital Leading Everything Else

Formation Capital is your individual formation, the character, clarity, and peace that let you carry real weight without losing yourself in it. Every other capital, your relationships, health, thinking, and money, follows from this one.

When Formation Capital Grows

Leaders become steadier.
Marriages become stronger.
Families become healthier.
Businesses become more resilient.

The Canoe

The most important thing a leader can do is get quiet.

No agenda. No audience. Just open water and space to think. Transformation starts in the stillness, not the noise. That's why we call it the Canoe.

The First Capital Journey

Discover. Strengthen. Lead.

01

Discover

Identify where your capital is growing, and where it's quietly leaking.

02

Strengthen

Cultivate Formation Capital through intentional rhythms, honest conversations, and daily practice.

03

Lead

Lead your family, your business, and your life from abundance instead of depletion.

The Six Rhythms of Formation

A practical path for lasting change.

  1. 01

    Be Present

    Presence before performance.

Start here. Get centered. Connect with what matters most.

  2. 02

    Slow Down

You cannot form a life you're moving too fast to experience.

Create space. Break the hurry and reset your pace.

  3. 03

    Tell the Truth

    Transformation begins when denial ends.

Get honest. No masks, no stories. Just the truth about what is.

  4. 04

    Do What Matters Most

Your priorities reveal what you're actually building.

Clarify priorities. Commit to what creates real value and momentum.

  5. 05

    Build Momentum

Your repetitions are forming your future.

Do the reps. Daily habits create the consistency that compounds.

  6. 06

    Enjoy the Journey

Don't build a life you never experience.

Stay grateful. Celebrate progress and be present for the ride.

Behind First Capital

Meet Chad & Wendy

For more than twenty-five years, we've walked alongside leaders, marriages, families, and organizations through seasons of growth, transition, loss, and renewal.

For much of that time, we believed leadership was about producing more, carrying more, achieving more. From the outside, it looked successful. Then life unraveled, and in the quiet that followed, we were forced to confront a question every leader eventually faces: what happens when a leader's Formation Capital is running low?

What we discovered changed the way we think about leadership. The greatest asset a leader possesses isn't influence. It isn't strategy. It isn't intelligence. It isn't Financial Capital. It's who they're becoming underneath it all. First Capital was born from that discovery.

Our passion is simple: helping people build lives worth leading. That's the work we now pour ourselves into through First Capital.

We've watched enough leaders finish poorly to know that strategy alone was never going to be the thing that carried them home.

By Invitation

First Capital stays intentionally small.

We can only give real attention to a limited number of leaders at once, so we keep the circle small. Most conversations start with an introduction from someone already in it. If that's how you found us, we'd love to talk.
